Hi All
AoC is about to launch a ‘No Free Lunch?’ campaign - calling on the Government to extend free meals for 16-18 year olds from a disadvantaged background who study at College (like their school sixth form counterparts).
A petition has been set up on the no.10 website and we would really appreciate if you could take a moment to sign it and circulate it to colleagues to sign. The link can be found here:

RE: Hidden Course costs
Dear Dr Birkinshaw,
Every year, students at York College find themselves out of pocket by having to pay for extra resources and activities in order to carry out their studies. These ‘hidden costs’ are on top of any tuition fees and are often not advertised to students when they apply for a course. Students at York College think this is unfair and ask you to commit to the following:
Advertise all course costs at the point of application
Students should be told how much it will cost to complete their course before they apply for it.…

Statement regarding Industrial Action 30th November
York College Students’ Union support the sentiments behind the Industrial Action on the 30th November as poor pensions would undermine staff morale in the College and discourage high quality staff from remaining in or joining the Educational profession, furthermore impacting on teaching and learning and the best student experience within the College.
This unfair Pensions deal also discourages our students from joining public sector professions, something which we believe would be detrimental for hundreds of aspiring doctors, nurses, teachers and other public sector workers in the College.
We are concerned that the Government’s uncooperative…
